Pamoja Certified Cybersecurity Technician
Virtual SOC Training — Professional Certification Pathway

Cyber security, taught the African way — together.
Pamoja Cyber Academy was founded to close one specific gap: African school leavers and career-changers who can pass a vendor exam, but cannot yet hold their own on day-1 of a real Security Operations Centre. Every phase is mapped to international curricula, but the teaching, examples and mentor voices are pan-African — because that is who we serve, and who hires our graduates.

Hanno van Zyl
Founder & Chief Architect, Pamoja Cyber Academy
Hanno van Zyl is a South African enterprise-development specialist with two decades of experience funding, mentoring, and scaling small businesses across the country.
He has spent his career at the intersection of capital and capability — as Investment Manager at GroFin, where he secured the highest single investment board approval in the fund's South African history; as Finance & Strategy Coach at Raizcorp, Africa's largest business incubator; as the first Business Mentor at the Goldman Sachs / GIBS 10,000 Women in Business programme; and as Team Leader for the Investec Advanced Enterprise Development programme.
Along the way he architected the Section 12H learnership tax structure that placed 1,472 learners into formal training pipelines and unlocked R 62.5M in skills-development funding. He has been recognised at presidential level for his work with township entrepreneurs, featured as "The Business Coach" on SA FM and Soweto TV, and has guest-lectured at the GIBS MBA programme. He currently sits on the National Executive Committee of SALI (South African Landscapers Institute).
Why Pamoja Cyber Academy?
Because South Africa's youth unemployment is a structural problem with a structural answer. We don't need another bootcamp. We need a programme that produces verifiable, employer-trusted skills at the price-point an unemployed graduate can actually afford — and that delivers the rare blend of technical depth and workplace-readiness that puts a first-job offer on the table.
After twenty years of watching skills-development budgets miss the people they were meant to reach, Pamoja Cyber Academy is Hanno's answer: an honest, hands-on, AI-mentored cybersecurity pathway built for the African market, priced for the African wallet, and accountable for African outcomes.
Pamoja — Swahili for "together" — is the operating principle.

Africa is producing certified juniors faster than its employers can absorb them.
South African youth unemployment is at 46.1% for ages 15-34, 62.4% for school leavers, and the single biggest barrier identified by Stats SA is the experience trap. Meanwhile African employers carry tens of thousands of unfilled cyber roles. We exist to be the bridge between — not yet another certificate factory.

Course Overview
This standalone cybersecurity learning pathway prepares aspiring SOC analysts for real-world security operations through four progressive phases. Each phase is anchored to a recognized framework (CMU, MIT, SANS, NIST) and combines deep theory content, AI-guided mentoring, practical lab exercises, and structured assessment. The program emphasizes professional documentation, ethical practice, and the ability to translate technical findings into business-relevant recommendations.
Learning Objectives
Analyze firewall logs and design behavioral detection signatures for authentication attacks
Conduct authorized network reconnaissance using professional Nmap methodology
Draft incident response plans using the SANS PICERL lifecycle for ransomware events
Design NIST-aligned Zero-Trust remote access policies with measurable governance
Communicate technical findings to executive and regulatory stakeholders
Apply ethical standards and professional documentation practices across all domains
Course Phases
CMU Network Defense
Firewall architecture, brute-force detection signatures, and SOC triage methodology.
MIT Offensive Security
Network mapping, port vulnerability analysis, stealth reconnaissance, and red team methodology.
SANS Incident Response
PICERL lifecycle applied to ransomware events with evidence handling and stakeholder communication.
NIST Governance
Zero-Trust architecture, remote access policy design, and measurable governance controls.
Assessment Structure
Phase exams (Standard)
Scenario-based questions sampled from a pool, 70% pass mark, server-graded with tamper-evident hash, unlimited retakes
Phase certificates
Earn one verifiable certificate per passed phase, downloadable as PDF, listed on /verify
Final benchmark
Aligned to CompTIA Security+, CySA+, EC-Council CEH and ISC2 CC objectives. Optional Verified Credential (R999) adds Smile ID + Safe Exam Browser + AI proctoring
24 Practical Labs
Hands-on exercises with Technical, Strategic, Lateral, and Real-World focus, AI-mentor reviewed
Certification Alignment
The four phases are deliberately mapped, objective by objective, to the published exam domains of four globally recognised entry-to-mid level cybersecurity certifications. Learners who complete the programme will have practiced against the same competencies tested in the live exams of these vendors.
